Murray’s success started when he graduated from Boston College in 1984. Stephen Murray majored, and later acquired a degree in his passion which was economics. By 1989, Murray had earned a master’s degree in business from the prestigious Colombia Business School.

After attending business school, Stephen Murray, in 1991, was able to join a rigorous training program that was for the purpose of becoming apart of a buyout company that merged with Chemical Banked.

With this promotion, Murray was able to sit on the board that included many other important company heads. These big companies included names such as Aramark, Generac Power Systems, AMC Entertainment, Warner Chilcott, The Vitamin Shoppe, Cabela’s, Pinnacle Foods, as well as the Legacy Hospital Partners.

Through Stephen Murray’s past business experience, Murray was given the privilege, through his success, to become involved in many philanthropy organizations. One of the organizations that he was the most involved with is the Make-A-Wish Foundation. In addition to this, Murray also strongly supported his past school, Boston College. He was even a constant donator to the Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County, the Stamford Museum, as well as the Colombia Business School. His involvement in some of these organizations included him holding several important positions. An example was his position as the vice chairman of the board of trustees at Boston College. He was also a member of the chairman’s council for the Make-A-Wish Foundation in the Metro New York area.

Stephen Murray is remembered for being a great investor as well as one of the best deal makers in the business. He has not only made positive contributions but has taught those younger than him on how to be involved in private equity. Stephen Murray dealt for the most part in private-equity. In 1989, he joined J.P. Morgan and was able to build the business to the point where he became CEO. For the last 8 years before Murray’s death in early 2015, he was the CEO of CCMP. He helped the newly built firm to establish its own identity.
