Thor Halvorsen on 2017 Oslo Freedom Forum

Thor Halvorssen is the founder of the Human Rights Foundation. He is the head of the Oslo Freedom Forum. This annual event brings together advocates for human rights from around the world in Oslo, Norway. While exciting speakers are always heard during this event, this year’s event promises to be very special because of the great lineup of speakers.Guillermo Farinas Hernandez is one of the speakers at this year’s event. This Cuban psychologist has conducted over 23 hunger strikes in protest about the deplorable human rights conditions in his native land. In 2010, the European Parliament awarded him the Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought.

Another excellent speaker at this year’s event will be Vian Dakhl who is the only Yazidi in the Iraqi Parliament. She rose to fame after making a passionate plea to save Yazidi people trapped in the Sinjar Mountains. You will be inspired by the courage of this woman who has won numerous prizes for her courageous voice.Do not miss Ahmedur Rashid Chowdhury’s speech. He is the winner of the Pinter International Writer of Courage Award. This man was attacked with machetes after writing the story of human rights violations in Bangladesh.

While you will definitely want to book your tickets early to hear from these speakers in Oslo from May 22 to 24, 2017, Thor Halvorssen says that the most important thing that happens at these events is not the speeches. Instead, he says it is the chance to network with people who have been successful at getting their stories out. Global journalists are usually on hand looking for interesting stories to write.Thor has been very successful in getting international attention at these events. While you may seldom notice him because he likes to hide in the background, it takes a lot of hard work to organize this event. He can often be found with three or four laptops going at the same time as he helps people connect with each other.
