Experts Perspective On How To Solve Traffic Dilemma In Williamson County

For a long time, most transport-related conferences hosted in Austin majored on the city’s transit system. However, a recent discussion broke that tradition. The event, held in Williamson County, primarily focused on the local infrastructure, rather than the usual stuff.

Overseeing the meeting were Mike Heiligenstein, an executive at the local mobility authority, Jared Ficklin of Argo design, Leandre Johns from Uber, and Joseph Kosper of RideScout LLC. The event was held the famous Sheraton Hotel in Georgetown, Texas.

Mike Heiligenstein stated that Austin needed to upgrade its transport infrastructure. He noted that while technology advancements could play a significant part in the improvement, they cannot suffice on their own. He further added that the only way to meet the growing demands in the transport sector was to improve the road systems in the grassroots.

On his part, Jared Ficklin stated that legislation governing land use and construction needs to remain flexible. He said that though the future points at self-driven cars, traditional structures such as parking garages are still going to be needed.

Jared said that forthcoming parking lots would not only have many floors but will also be much smaller. As per the current building by-laws, such structures are prohibited.

Mike remained indifferent on the subject of autonomous cars. He expressed his pessimism on the adoption of the technology. Contrary to popular belief, Mike is confident that the acceptance of driverless cars will be slow and tedious. He remained defiant that the best solution was to alleviate the standards of their road systems. Mike added that in the coming days, there might be a need for huge highways, covering a massive twelve lanes. Leandre Johns took his chance to voice the importance of transit agency firms like Uber. He stressed that companies like his could provide solutions to the conundrum by implementing subsidies that will encourage more clients to abandon personal rides for public transport means.

Since its inception in 2002, the mobility authority has overseen rapid improvements in the transport infrastructure within Travis and Williamson Counties in Central Texas. Their objective is to create road systems that will eradicate traffic congestion and spur economic growth in the process.

According to Biz Journals, Mike Heiligenstein is the chair of the group. He is appointed by the state governor, while local county commissioners select the other six members. The authority provides its services through the enlisting of private contractors.
