Michel Terpins: Arguably the Best Rally Driver in Brazil in 2017

Making it in rally driving requires a great degree of driving skill, concentration and a hint of risk-taking. Brazilian driver, Michel Terpins has these qualities in abundance. It is, therefore, unsurprising that he is on his way to becoming the winner of this year’s cross country rally championship.


A versatile racer, Michel Terpins made his rally debut in the motorcycle category. His first race was during the 2002 edition of the Sertoes Rally. However, with time and as he matured as a rally driver, he decided to make a swift to car rally driving. More specifically, he decided to specialize in the category T1 prototype, riding a T-Rex. For the last four consecutive years, he has been racing in a T-Rex developed by MEM Motorsport. In addition to being fast, the car is safe, powerful and most importantly reliable.

Sertoes Rally

A bulk of Michel Terpins rally participations have come in the Sertoes Rally. Held every year, the Sertoes Rally is the biggest off-road race in the country and is revered for its unpredictability and the degree of risk involved. The rally typically takes seven days and cuts across a number of states. Michel Terpins has placed highly in each of the last four Sertoes Rally editions, finishing 8th in the prototypes T1 2014 edition and winning the 2017 edition. The 2017 win also consolidated his lead in the Brazilian Cross Country Rally’s prototype T1 category.

Environmental Consciousness

Michel Terpins has long been using his profile as a rally driver to increase awareness about environmental degradation Brazil. During the last few editions of the Sertoes Rally, his car has been awarded the “carbon free” stamp. The stamp signifies that the rally team to whom it is awarded commits to planting trees to compensate for the emissions released by their vehicle during the rally. Additionally, Michel Terpins is one of the partners at the reforestation company Floresvale. The company has for the last seven years been developing sustainable timber poles through managed eucalyptus forests. Additionally, it has also been advocating for the restoration of a dozen million hectares of deforested forest lands in Brazil.
