Tempus Co-Founder Eric Lefkofsky

Eric Lefkofsky is the co-founder and CEO of the innovative company Tempus, which is involved with collecting genomic data that will help oncologists be able to treat the disease of cancer in a better way. He started the business after he had experienced seeing a loved one of his being treated for cancer several years ago. He felt that genetic testing could be the answer to providing doctors with a more effective way to treat cancer patients, since it would help them decide what the best medicines would be for each disease-stricken individual based on what kind of genes they carry.

After attending the University of Michigan’s Law School, Eric Lefkofsky went on to teach Applied Technology at the Kellstadt School of Business, which is a part of DePaul University. He also provided instruction at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management, and was an adjunct professor at the Booth School of Business, located at the University of Chicago, where his classes focused on the subject of starting technology-based businesses. He is also the author of a book called Accelerated Disruption, which is based on the topic of how to choose companies that can be innovated by the use of technology.

Eric Lefkofsky not only advises aspiring entrepreneurs, but he also contributes to charities that support both scientific and educational organizations, as well as other causes that are geared toward helping the human condition all over the world. He and his wife joined another charity called The Giving Pledge, and he sits on the board of directors at Children’s Memorial Hospital, located in Chicago. He is additionally a board member of The Art Institute of Chicago, The Museum of Science and Industry, and World Business Chicago, where he holds the position of Co-Chairman of the Technology Council.

He feels that his strengths in the way he handles his business responsibilities can be credited to his knowing how to prioritize and delegate. He encourages other business people to not be afraid to take chances and to keep moving forward. The Detroit, Michigan native is also the co-founder of Lightbank, a venture fund investment company that focuses on disruptive technology businesses.
